The Scheme was approved by the Cabinet on 19 June 2024 for the period 2024-25 to 2028-29. Under this scheme, 9 additional NFSU Campuses & 7 new CFSLs have been approved, along with upgradation of NFSU Delhi campus. The aim of the scheme is to help create a sound forensic laboratory infrastructure and prepare world class trained forensic professionals in the country, which will contribute to an efficient and effective criminal justice system based on timely and scientific forensic examination of evidence.
The Cabinet has approved the National Forensic Infrastructure Enhancement Scheme (NFIES) in June 2024, with a total outlay of βΉ2254.43 crore. This scheme will support the establishment of nine new campuses of the National Forensic Sciences University (NFSU) across the country and seven new Central Forensic Science Laboratories. It also includes upgrading the infrastructure of the existing NFSU campus in Delhi.
The objective of the proposed scheme is to address the shortage of trained forensic professionals in the country along with reducing the pendency of cases in the Forensic Science Laboratories (FSLs) in the country.
